The walk
This follows the island's water channel from Camacha through Serra de Fora and a 530-metre tunnel to Ribeiro Formoso, finishing at the Nossa Senhora da Graça chapel.
It is closed. ARM, the regional water company, is replacing the supply mains that run along the footpath, and the IFCN says the trail stays shut until the works finish. No date has been published.
Sources disagree slightly: an older tourism-board document describes it as passable between Camacha and the chapel with only the tunnel closed, while the IFCN list and the live trail page both say closed outright. The IFCN is the newer of the two and it is their trail.
Bus 991 from Vila Baleira serves Camacha, which is where it starts, for whenever it opens again.
