Most trails need a licence
Since 1 January 2026 every classified trail managed by the IFCN is booked in advance on SIMplifica, the regional government's portal: you choose the trail, the day and a half-hour entry slot. Visitors pay €4.50 a trail, and €10.50 for the full crossing of PR 1. Residents of Madeira, children aged twelve and under and people with a disability of 60% or more do not pay, but still register. There are no refunds unless the IFCN closes the trail.
