Twenty seconds of Porto Moniz, Seixal and more, written for this very spot. On the tour it plays by itself as you arrive.
Black volcanic sand, a freshwater waterfall falling onto the beach year-round, and a tunnel carved through the cliff as the only entrance. Faces north so receives Atlantic swell. On calm days water is clear, on rough days swimming is dangerous. Water temperature 18–20°C in summer. Parking is very limited (~15 spaces). Arrive before 9am in summer. No changing rooms, bar, or toilets on site. Combine with Porto Moniz Natural Pools, 15 min further west. Warning: do not swim on days with swell above 1.5 m.
